Golu

Being a south Indian, I have to celebrate a festival called Navarathri by building staircases filled with dolls. This is called Golu- and it is such a fun ritual! Along with the stereotype staircase, we can also add a theme to our golu, like parks, temples, and even cities! This is the golu my mom made:-

Can you see the park on the left? Well, that is part of larger theme- which located on the right of the picture. It is a model of Tirupati, the second richest holy place in the world! It is the abode of our family god, known as Lord Venkateshwara, or easier, balaji. We decided to make it grand, as it was the first time after years that we celebrated golu ( personal reasons ) Anyway, My mother, brother and I made a video about the golu, and if you are interested, you can watch it! The link is down below. The idea of the video was given to me by my dad,( it was played when people visited our house ) to make it our celebrations more interesting! I

Sibling Rivalry... STOP IT!

Hey guys! I know technically I am supposed to post tomorrow (because it is still the same week), but I have a 2 week mid-term break from school! Chances are that I will post numerous things in a week, and sometimes even a day, because I have so much on my list to tell you! In our English classes, we have been studying Journalism. Part of this unit is obviously to write an article that showcases your learning. So I decided to share the article I wrote with you guys! It is about Sibling Bullying ( We had to write about problems faced by people )- and I hope you like it!

Sibling Bullying

By Shruthi

Many around the world suffer from getting bullied by their siblings. Shruthi Natarajan uncovers solutions for this rising problem.
“Let me get started”. Shruthi Natarajan rushes into her room after reaching home. A tiring day in school doesn’t stop her from being a loving sister, and repaying her brother Rishabh for the most adorable birthday gift ever. After all, he plays a big part in her life! Reetha Natarajan, the mother of the 2 kids found Shruthi’s behaviour very appreciable, as it it isn’t every day that siblings respect each other this much! Very soon, the 6 year old comes back from school, and is welcomed with balloons and a warm hug from his sister.

“ Is this for me?” he asks. “ Of course it is! Why would I not thank my amazing brother for that cute hermione poster he gave me?” Shruthi replies.

But a few hours later, the atmosphere is tense and the overall tone of both siblings had changed. As usual, their love filled hearts turned into soldiers in a war.

“I though this was all for me , but you still broke my favourite balloon!”

“ Oh please, you were the one who popped it, and on top of that you blame me. All my effort always lands in you messing things up”
“I will tell mumma about you!”
“Yea sure, go complain to your dear mumma!”

And off went Rishabh, wailing to his mother about the horrid behaviour of his sister. After a lot of shouting and complaining, the two of them said sorry to each other, and everything was normal again.

This kind of situation isn’t unique to them alone, but is shared by millions of siblings around the world. First, they are nice to each other, and then they fight, but only if they are lucky, they apologise.  This isn’t where the problem lies, because in the end, what is a brother and sister relationship without conflicts? Rishabh and Shruthi share a lovely bond, and despite all their differences, they resolve it by the end of the day.

The main issue lies when that line of tolerance is crossed by either one of the siblings… most likely the elder ones. Stretching the issue, or not saying sorry can lead the relationship to the point where there is nothing left to sustain it. Sibling Bullying is a very common problem in the world today. A small fight alone can bring up very huge distances, and challenging decisions, but we must constantly remind ourselves that it is mostly up to the elder sibling to take care and pave the way for their younger ones. It is almost always the case where the younger siblings feel unwanted, because their elder brothers or sisters make them suffer that way.

Nandini Krishna is one such victim of sibling bullying. Her elder brother Aditya is never nice to her, and treats her like she is nothing to him. “ He hates me, and I hate him” is what she said with contempt when asked about her relation with her brother. She believes that elder brothers are usually the ones who trouble their younger sisters. Although she goes through that pain everyday, she has always stayed strong, and faces it by taking revenge, or just ignoring the constant annoyance. But this path of strength is not usually the one chosen by people around the world, as they are subjected to depression.

Research shows that the consequences of Sibling bullying can be as big as adult depression, affecting various other things you do in daily life. It is very difficult for some people to hit the reality that their sibling was also born to the same parents. They treat each other like strangers, and they don’t know where to draw the line between normal fights and bullying. But sometimes, the parents are also at fault. Sometimes, it is the parents who can be the difference between a close relationship and a wrecked one.

Jemma May is one of the few exceptions to sibling bullying, like Shruthi Natarajan. She has an elder brother and a younger one, therefore she has experience in being the younger one and the elder one. Her parents have always encouraged her and her brothers to support one another, and to keep fights at bay. When interviewed, Jemma spoke about her love for her 2 brothers- “I love them! We have playful fights a lot of the time but we get along really well. They complete me!” .

In other cases, parents either don’t pay heed to what their children do, or they are bias to one of them. The bias is what mostly happens, especially in places where people prefer boys to girls. The bias of the parents results in the forever drifting away relationship between the children. As they grow older, their ears are used to the poison that slowly invades their mind, causing them to do the wrong thing. Sometimes, It takes immense courage to stand up to parents like these, and fight for what is right.

Another victim, this time an elder sister, faced the same problem. Chisato Kajiwara comes from a Japanese family who believe that boys are better than girls. This is making Chisato drift further and further away from her younger broth . Despite being the elder one, she has no say in any fight which her brother starts. Her parents immediately take the side of the younger one, and don’t pay heed to what Chisato has to say. “ I wish I was born in your family! I hate my family, especially my brother. He is the cause of my miseries!” she broke down to Shruthi Natarajan, who happened to be her best friend.

There are 2 ways we can end this problem. We can either leave it up to the parents to handle their kids better, or we could actually change ourselves. It might be hard at first, but it can help both you and your sibling shape a better future. We can stop sibling bullying!

“ I am so sorry akka(sister in tamil)!”
“ You know I love you, right Rishu? Next time, even though i didn’t pop that balloon, I will make sure I don’t pop your balloons!”

“ I told you already, you broke it, not me”
“NOT AGAIN!”
“Fine… sorry!”

I hope this has raised awareness about the issue, and make sure you don't commit the same mistake others have committed! Love your siblings, and give them all the affection they need. Anyways- Leave your suggestions as comments below ! :)

Fifa grief

So you all probably know about this year's FIFA world cup. And you already know that I LOVE Argentina. So obviously, I shed a few tears and got a 'little' bit angry when Argentina lost. To express my grief, I had written a lo-o-o-ong post on Facebook a few months ago. The first four paragraphs are bit harsh, but I didn't mean t to criticise anyone! The last 4 paragraphs are the peaceful ones. If you are interested to read it- go on!

"Yes. its a long time. But I have been trying to get over the dejection, and been trying to fix the heart that was broken by Argentina's loss to Germany. Oh Higuaín, WHY WHY?????? I TRUSTED.... ALLL OF YOU!!!!!! YOU GUYS CANT DEPEND ON MESSI AND DI MARIA AND PPL ALL THE TIME!!!!! STOP GETTING EXCITED AND LOSING SUCH BRILLIANT OPPORTUNITIES!

Messi brought Argentina to the finals, but what happened in the Match that mattered most? Of course, everyone makes mistakes, but you, Messi, aren't one to lose moment. YOU NEVER LOSE YOUR MAGIC! Then what happened in that free kick, Messi? Aren't u the king of free kicks? That ball went so high above the goal, that i almost broke down with disbelief.

That match was yours Argentina! Mario Goetze just scraped in his luck. Your defence was AMAZING. Your chances were NUMEROUS. But your urge to win was less. There was something missing in your play. Germany was breaking, and you were the team to show them what real football was..... but even then, yes, EVEN THEN they got away with it. 7 in a match wasn't enough for them! But you guys? You just feel good if you get 1 goal to win.

That wasn't how it was supposed to work. Besides, every match before, you guys managed to get a goal in the first half itself! That golden chance was awarded to Higuaín, but he just...... lost it..... ;(. People weren't lying when they said Germany worked as a team, and everyone's minds agreed that they would win. But people were definitely not lying when they said their hearts were with you. Their love was for you. Their wishes were for you.

But remember, we haven't lost hope! I have not intended to blame any of you ( not even you Higuaín) but it is just a reminder that now Messi has already reached his peak age in football. There is no complete assurance that he will be the same Messi as he once was before, in 2018. You guys will have to work as a team, and if you want Messi's magic to work, try and understand him. And Messi, good job this far. You may not be in par with Maradona or Péle as far as the World Cup goes, but to us, the whole world united, YOU ARE CERTAINLY THE KING OF FOOTBALL!

Argentina, you did amazingly well this year. I am not praising only Messi, but each and everyone one of you equally. Especially Mascherano, Di Maria, and Lavezzi. You guys played in the level of Messi, and made us all deeply moved each time you gave it your all just to score for your team; For your Country. Oh, and I almost forgot, Romero, Romero!! Your goal keeping skills are unmatched!! Those two penalty saves were amazing, and you were awesome on the field

This World Cup was undoubtedly the best in history. The players and the fans shared many lovely moments, Happy, Funny, Sad, Surprising, Impossible, and over all- THE BEST!!!! By the way Neymar, I can't forget you. You too, were one to be appreciated to the core. Despite your wicked fall, you got back up. Perhaps you lost your chance this time, but next time, lets see if you can get Brazil to the Finals! I am hoping for an Argentina-Brazil Final next World Cup!

Don't get disheartened by your loss to Germany, Argentina. Alejandro Sabella, you were a really good coach. Don't keep your grief with you for too long. Look at it on the brighter side, Germany won just by luck! And anyway, they played really well the past two world cups, and they deserved to win some time. But You have a chance in 2018, and I, along with the rest of the fans, believe in you........
2018 is YOURS ARGENTINA!!!!!!!!!! (and Neymar)"

How was it? I hope you guys shared the same emotions, because if you are a German fan- you and I are not friends!! Hehe, Just kidding! After all, everyone has their own opinion. Anyway, bye now. I think 3 posts in one day is enough for this week... ( let me think about it! )

As you already know, I am a 13 year old girl who has a younger brother, lives in Singapore with her parents and studies in UWCSEA East. But what else am I made up of?

I have also recently become an Agatha Christie Fan, and her books are very gripping! My favourite book of hers would be the Murder of Roger Ackroyd. I enjoy reading subtle humour, so books by P.G Wodehouse starring Bertram Wooster and Jeeves really appeals to me.

From these main 3 classics, you probably deciphered that I love Action, Adventure, Fantasy, Mystery, Crime and Comedy books. Of course, I also love comics, especially the Tintin series by Herge.

You all must be wondering what kind of music I listen to, right? Unlike others, my music tastes are very cultural. Having lived in India for 5 years has impacted my music sense alot. I come from a very conservative family- which has given me my Carnatic Music base. Yes, I learn Carnatic Music, and I am proud of it!

I am a second degree black belt in Taekwondo, and I enjoy doing it! Recently though, I have stopped going to classes to accommodate more time for studies. But I still practice my techniques daily, and I will continue my learning after a few years.

I really love playing badminton, especially with my dad. I am in the school team too! Football is another one of my favourite sports- and it is one that I am absolutely addicted to! My favourite players- Messi and Neymar. My favourite league- La Liga. My favourite League team- FC BARCELONA! My favourite country team(s)- ARGENTINA!!! ( and also Brazil!! :D) Yes, if allowed, I can go on and on about how brilliant Messi and Neymar are. ( and I will do so in the next post! )

Academically, I love Science! Chemistry and Physics are my favourites, and I dislike Biology. Math is also very interesting! English is more of an passion subject for me, as I love writing. Humanities?(Geography and History) Yes, I enjoy humanities as well. It teaches us about the world- doesn't it? :)

Anyways, I think that is enough said for now. I will have a few more of the "Myself Unveiled" posts in the coming months.  As far as my blogging regularity goes, I will most likely do 1 post every week. If I have lots of information and news, then that number will increase! But if I don't post anything in a week, that is probably when I have tests or projects due in. I will also start posting "Quotes of the week" every time I blog. You may have seen a few in the post before, but to officially start it- Quote #1 :

See you :D
